Introduction

For our AS Media coursework, we were asked to form groups in order to complete the work. In my group there is myself, Amber Grundy and Kayleigh Rodgers. The other two members of the group have completed Media Studies at GCSE and have good knowledge of key media terminology and other information relating to Media. Also all the members of the group share similar interests in film.

We were first asked to choose the genre and as we do share similar interests in film, the decision was quickly made. However as the genre we have chosen is Spy Thriller this is a sub-genre of Thriller, so when producing the film we will have to make the conventions specific to Spy Thriller and no other sub-genres, for example action thriller. This is because some Thriller sub-genres share very similar elements. Also we agreed to choose a suitable genre in which we have watched many films of. This is because we have extensive knowledge of the conventions used in this film genre and we believe we can produce a film in which it fits all the genre’s criteria.

After our Genre was chosen, we had begun to decide on some possible film plots. We all had our own personal input, for example one of the members of the group wanted to defeat the stereotypes of women in Spy Thrillers as they are often the damsel in distress and is seen as weak and vulnerable. Also I some input in what types of characters should be included, for example a male villain with a assistant who is a woman assassin, also two characters who are leaders of countries like prime ministers and presidents. These are typical characters of spy thrillers and should be included to make it specific to the spy genre.

  1. What made you decide on this specific sub-genre of Thriller?
